Framatome GmbH (formerly AREVA GmbH) is a Framatome company that is a major international player in the nuclear energy market recognized for its innovative solutions and value-added technologies for designing, building, maintaining, and advancing the global nuclear fleet. The company designs, manufactures, and installs components and fuel for nuclear power plants and offers a full range of reactor services. Framatome is owned by the EDF Group (75.5%), Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI – 19.5%) and Assystem (5%). Headquartered in Paris with regional subsidiaries in the U.S. and Germany, Framatome GmbH is a subsidiary of Framatome SAS which is active in Eastern and Western Europe, North and South America, Asia and Africa. Framatome GmbH offers experience, R&D, and unparalleled innovation and expertise in engineering, major project management, fuel, equipment and services supply for all reactors technologies, primarily for PWRs and BWRs.
Leading expertise areas of Framatome GmbH to be deployed in SOTERIA are design, execution and assessment of RPV irradiation surveillance programs including LTO licensing worldwide, irradiation embrittlement studies and experimental programmes for RPV steels, and RPV integrity assessments performed for many decades, related materials and component integrity issues, high-level testing and measurement facilities, qualification and harmonisation of standards, and project management. Moreover, Framatome GmbH has a long tradition of active participation in European FP projects (e.g. PERFECT, PERFORM 60, LONGLIFE), networks (e.g. NUGENIA, IGRDM) and national research projects (e.g. CARISMA, CARINA, TIMES) covering structural integrity issues of nuclear components.s.
Framatome GmbH contributes by provision of suitable unirradiated and neutron-irradiated European RPV steels, by experimental tests, by improvement and verification of advanced simulation tools and models, and by acting as leader of Work Package 3. Based preferably on the PERFORM 60/LONGLIFE and the German CARISMA/CARINA programmes and own material stocks, relevant irradiated base and weld materials stored in Framatome, Hot Cells are offered for microstructural studies, chemical analyses and material testing. International cooperation outside Europe is intended with USNRC and ORNL in the US. The contributions of Framatome GmbH are end-user oriented and refer particularly to the study of the impact of neutron flux and initial material heterogeneities on RPV irradiation behaviour under LTO, and to the verification of PERFORM 60 models to predict the fracture behaviour using the different microstructural measurement results. In this way the development of European best practices in dealing with scatter in data analysis and condition assessment is supported. The scientific-technical expertise gained by Framatome GmbH in previous international projects, acknowledged networks and as provider of nuclear services for LTO fits to the expertise required to fulfil the tasks concerned.

As a chief advisor Hieronymus Hein has special knowledge in the areas of RPV ageing and irradiation behavior of reactor materials and is experienced in management of RPV irradiation surveillance programs for power and research reactors and related R&D projects. He has over 28 years’ experience in applications and research & development in nuclear safety with over 10 years’ experience of project management in national and international projects for the safety assessment of reactor pressure vessels.
|Elisabeth Keim, certified engineer (diploma degree) in Material Science and Department Manager Fracture mechanics and Irradiation Behaviour, Framatome Fellow
In her position as Framatome Fellow Elisabeth Keim has a key expertise (more than 35 years) in structural and fracture mechanics and integrity assessment including material and irradiation behaviour. She is recognised as an opinion leader by the community. She is a driving force of establishing international projects for R&D, especially Horizon 2020 of EC currently underway, which result regularly in additional contracts of customers. She has customers all around the world. Within the group she is responsible for a fracture mechanics department and for training of experts in her fields (support thesis etc. of students in cooperation with Universities).
Florian Obermeier, certified engineer (diploma degree) in Materials Engineering.
Florian Obermeier is working in the field of fracture mechanics and RPV integrity assessment. He has 8 years’ experience in research & development and assessment of integrity of nuclear components in Light Water Reactors. Moreover he has special knowledge in the numerical determination of residual welding stresses.
